The (wedding) Ikhwera

The groom’s family formally visits the bride’s home to express their intentions. They bring symbolic gifts to initiate a relationship between the two families.

🎋 Cultural Insight: Traditional gifts include sugar cane, honey, and a live rooster

Both families engage in negotiations over the bride price, which typically includes livestock and household items. This exchange symbolizes the coming together of two kins and the groom’s commitment to provide for his future family.

🌾 Tradition Note: Cows represent prosperity in Luhya culture

Once the bride price is settled, an engagement ceremony follows, marked by traditional songs, dances, and blessings from elders. This celebration officially unites the two families.

🥁 Celebration Tip: Expect vibrant Isukuti drum performances
**More details about the traditional wedding day program will be shared as we get closer to the big day.**
